Attended the National Association of Christian Counselors' 2nd annual conference yesterday. I heard two persons, one from the pulpit, and another to me personally, say something to the effect that grace is being misunderstood and perhaps misused. And I have been thinking for some time now, that grace is what the church of Jesus Christ in Malaysia really needs to recover. And speaking about recovery, actually it is the precious gospel of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ which desperately needs to be recovered amidst the myriad of waves of doctrines which crashes ashore the beaches of the churches today!
It is also interesting to note that as the church lost the gospel of grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, it has had to rely on psychology and counseling for assistance in pastoral ministry. It is quite sad actually to realize that ultimately the goal of any psychological and counseling intervention is to put 'power in the soul of the client to self-heal', and thus, be utterly contrary to classic doctrines of Scripture which emphatically denounces any other intervention than the complete and completed work of Christ at the cross and His resurrection.
We need to get back to the Scriptures and get our basis for so-called 'Christian' counseling.
