Sometimes you just got to do what you know you just got to do!
This brings me to the topic of mastery. Mastery over what?
Mastery of the decision making ability of an individual. Mastery especially when an individual is faced with daunting circumstances externally, and difficult conditions internally.
Let me use a common experience - spiritual exercises.
I will define spiritual exercises here as the exercise of prayer and Scripture meditation on a daily basis. For those who engage in prayer and Scripture meditation in the morning, this is almost daily challenge. The challenge of engaging with God through His word and Scripture meditation. Some mornings, it can be just great spending time with God through His word and prayer. Sometimes, all you want to do is continue sleeping!
So how does one achieve mastery?
The mastery required to make the decision to wake up anyhow, and just do it! Opening the Scriptures, and opening our mouths to pray. Inspite of how we may be feeling internally, to the contrary.
It many times boils down to what is important to us, and what we believe is important to us.
And I believe that it honors God when we continue to seek His face regardless of how we feel at that moment. In fact, I would share with the Lord how I am feeling, and let Him take it from there.
This morning, and this moment, I am believing God that He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all I can ask or think. I am believing Him for supernatural blessings from all over, from everywhere. I so want to be blessed to be a blessing.
Coming back to the subject of mastery, for me, it is about training that decision making ability of us to make the decisions which count, at that moment, because we know that that is the decision which counts, at the moment!
"Lord, train my will to make decisions which please You. Train my thoughts and emotions to make decisions which align with Your word, which is Your will. There are yet areas in me, part of the fallen self which still rear its ugly head to influence me. Lord help me to enter into the deep, deep realization that that ugly self was crucified with Christ. I need such a deep realization of that crucifixion of that fallen self. And at the same time, a deep realization that I have risen with Christ, in righteousness and holiness, to new life. A resurrected life, in Christ, and with Christ."
