Dreaming your Life, and Living your Dreams!

On February 1st, 2010, I was seconded to HELP International College of Technology, to be the Acting Head of Department, American Degree Program. Prior to this secondment, I was a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Behvavioral Sciences, Dept of Psychology in HELP University College.

What most people did not know was that I was already dreaming of the day I would be head of a unit or department. And this dream had been percolating in my inner world for almost 2 over years! I continually saw myself being appointed the head of a department. I saw myself, in the theatre of my imaginations, turning around a department, and leading them to glory. I'm glad to say that the first part has been accomplished. Together with some fantastic support from my Executive Chairman, Registrar and Academic Director, the American Degree Program in HELP International College of Technology has been turned around. It is now being primed for growth.

I've always been a dreamer. I remember from my childhood, always dreaming of what I would accomplish as I grew up. I then came across a Scripture verse in the Bible ( I am a practising believer of the Lord Jesus Christ ), which said that "God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask, or think, according to the power which is at work within us" ( Col 3:20 ). And that verse was the catalyst for some wonderful adventures of dreaming my life, and then living that dream.

I remember that I was always dreaming of working with young people, to make a positive difference in their lives. And today, I am heading a degree program, teaching young people, and engaged in helping them succeed in live through education.

And so I am a compulsive dreamer. I must hasten to add though, that my cognitions make it a tough job to continue to dream. Our cognitions are at its base - very linear, sequential and rule based. On the other hand, to be able to dream, is to be able to let go of linearity, sequentiality and rules, at least from time to time, and especially when we need to DREAM!

Here are a list of my dreams:
a. to see my girls, Carissa ( 18 ), and Rachel ( 16 ), live their lives to the fullest, in fulfilling their potential in GOD, to have an exciting adventure growing up as teenagers, and realizing their wildest dreams
b. for Jessie and I to be a catalyst of growth for many people, both young and old
c. for me to be an EXCEPTIONALLY OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SPEAKER!
d. to WRITE excellent articles which will help people move ahead in their lives
e. to be a GREAT BLESSING to all, and fulfill my mandate as a child of Abraham, from whom all families on the earth are blessed

I have loads of other dreams, many of which I would like to remain confidential, at least for now.

So as I take my leave, I leave you with some principles to Dream your Life, and Live your Dreams:
a. Dream - what is your dream? Go get some dreams.
b. Desire - desire is linked to dreams, so what are you desiring for? Will it bless people around you?
c. Determination - you need determination to put plans or structures under your dreams. Someone once said, it's alright to build castles in the air, just make sure you ensure their foundations go all the way down to the earth!
d. Destiny - realize that indeed you are dreaming your destiny. You must have a sense of destiny. This is linked with the purpose driven life.

So what are you waiting for? Go forward, begin dreaming your life, and living your dreams! I have, and I will continue to do so.

God bless you.
Franklin
