Away in Penang ... 11th March to 13th March

Am writing this piece from room 1126, Cititel Hotel, Penang Road, Penang. Was down to do the Project Management class for Disted College, as part of HELP's franchise agreement with this college in offering the Bachelor of Psychology ( Hons ) program.

It has been good to be away, and to be alone. It's an opportunity to reflect, and reflection can also be done via prayer, and in fact, prayer can also be a form of reflection - just read a sampling of the Psalms to bear this out.

Along the way, I marvel at people who have facebook, and can blog, whilst with a full working load!

My darling wife, Jessie, commented to me just last night that I seem to be turning into an alcoholic!

I totally understand what she is alluding to. Even the journey up to Penang was not spared work. Since the Aeroline had power sockets on-board, it was an opportunity to clear some work, and I'm glad I was able to.

Then, back in the hotel, this Saturday morning, it's still work time - just about enough time to put together the slides for tomorrow's Open Day at HELP University College, and the talk I'm doing for ADP@HICT. Then, a little more work in getting some slides put together for a training program, and then, let's see what else needs working on!

Some commentary on 'Thiz n That':
1. Man U - I sort of thought that they would beat AC Milan, but did not reckon the score to be 4-0 in their favor. And with Rooney firing from all cylinders, it does look like Man U's year. At the same time, it would take just one cynical tackle on Rooney, and there goes the dream. So how will Man U fare the rest of the season? It's interesting to note that it's always been a goal-scorer, mid-field holder, and an outstanding goal-keeper, which has been at the heart of Man U's success over the years ( think of Peter Shilton, Schemeichel, and now, van Der Sar ).

2. 1 Malaysia continues to be anything but ONE! I just don't understand how our political leaders could be so lacking in self-awareness that many Malaysians see through their charade. For me, it is a clash of mind-sets; one of a parochial, narrow, self-serving type, against an all inclusive, tolerant, and service type.

3. Earthquakes - in the Bible, the Master did say that earthquakes would increase in frequency and intensity as the end of history draws near. Only a naive knave would live in denial that something's not right with the way the world is careening about. Watch out for more earthquakes, and natural disasters! And for relief fatigue!

Time is flying! Sometimes, you literally have to stop and just take a breath! And realize there's more to life than what can be seen. There are superordinate goals, and there's transcendence. And transcendence implies a Higher Power. For me, this Higher Power has a name. In fact, a multitude of names, and they are all in the Judeo-Christian scriptures.

Signing off,
Franklin
