I just rec'd an email message from a colleague ... apparently some parents and students complained about certain of my faculty colleagues ( and I'm not referring to the Dept of Psychology ), walking about in slippers and so called "unprofessional" looking "baju". And I thought, "the audacity of these parents and students", especially some students. Have you seen the dressing of some students on our campus? I term that kind of dressing which leaves not much left uncovered extremely unprofessional, and I wonder why our management keep going through the same old orientation which talks about certain dress codes, and lack the will, to enforce them?
It is unbelievable how some of our A-levels, Law students and Business/Econs students dress, yes, and also Psychology ones, which sometimes causes me to wonder why they bother coming to college in the first place. I pity the male lecturers who have to bear with female students who expose way too much. I wonder what our management thinks about that, and what they propose to do about that? I guess I will probably get into trouble for airing this on the net for the whole world to read. And we are supposed to be free to air our opinions? That this is supposedly an environment of education where minds are encouraged to think, propose, debate, discuss, discard, and move on?
Anyway, one more week to go before the teaching semester ends for the psychology department. Another bruising semester to end a bruising year. And I know many students think and feel the same. I guess this is called "stretching". I wonder where we draw the line though. In the meantime, finals are in about a week, and I can look forward to marking over 450 scripts. Yayyyy ...
