Coffee with God!

One of my greatest pleasures in life is having coffee with God! You ask me if this is possible? And my response is a resounding, YES! God is not so high above that we need any religious ceremony to bring Him down, or so far below that we need some occultic mumbo-jumbo to conjure Him up. He is right there, the very breath we breathe, just waiting for us to acknowledge Him. This phenomenon is known in theology as His omnipresence. Unfortunately, secularism has ruled Him as irrelevant, and then wonders why we have spiralling crime rates, and a speedy descent of all that we value as decent and good in society these days.

Back to coffee with God ... it is an unbelievable experience, experiencing the presence of the creator of the heavens and the earth. Truly mystical and mysterious, beyond understanding. How do I do it? I don't. I "wait upon Him", and He encourages and strengthens and renews me.

So how do I do it?

a. I start off by coming to Him, bringing my realization that He is there ( Francis Shaeffer ), whether I believe or not, He is there, or in this case, He is here! Just the realization to begin with, and the knowledge that there is something inherently good about God. That He won't shoo me away because He is busy with the affairs of this world. That as busy as He is, continuously doing good in myriad of ways in the affairs of men, He still has time to LISTEN to me. Ah wonder of wonders! See how this time is our hour of power?!

b. Then, I get a simple, almost imperceptible impression of a thought to ponder, and to contemplate. Pondering is just allowing that thought to linger in my consciousness; contemplation is to engage ever so lightly with that same thought. I may then find myself beginning to have a stream of consciousness associated with this thought.

c. From here, it moves on to an ever rising sense of elation and sometimes, even ecstasy. Yes, taste and see that the Lord is good! Imagine the most delicious durian you've heard someone recommend; you'd never know until you taste it. So how does one "taste" God?

d. Here's where His awesome love letter comes into play. Better than foreplay! His word has this remarkable ability to touch me in such a way that I am chastened, or corrected ( disciplined ), taught, renewed, given direction, and blessed emotionally with pleasure ( the rush of endorphins! ), and granted insight - simultaneously! Isn't He simply coooooollllll? No wonder the gospel song writers are so superlative in their lyrics about experiences with Him.

In this crazy, crazy world, it is moments like this that renews my vision and values in life. Coffee with God is intensely therapeutic. Intensely romantic. Intensely an educating experience. One really have to experience this to truly understand.

Again, it all begins with us recognizing, or allowing ourselves to believe that He is near. One of God's names - and remember, names denote or describe the essential quality or attribute or characteristic of that person - is Emmanuel, God with us. Yes He is transcendent, but eminently near too! In other words, He has created us to know Him in a very personal way. So what are you waiting for?

So dear reader and visitor, I thank you for visiting my blog, and spending some time here. My heart's wish for you is to experience this awesome God whose purpose is to allow each of us to live out our fullest potential, to be all we can be in this lifetime. No matter what you may be experiencing right now, He is near. Be aware. He is a word away. Even the unspoken word.
Leadership Quotes either begin, or for this post, ends my blog for the day:
The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. ~ Max DePree
