Slow Motion Therapy

It hit upon me how useful it was for me, to slow down my thoughts. And in slowing down my thoughts, to slow down my speech, and to slow down my actions. The base stems from trusting GOD. And so it begins with my mind learning to rest upon GOD, WHO HE IS, and What HE has done for me. This very process of slowing down is calming. It has become very useful for me, especially in light of work stress. In the past few days, I had learn't to responsibly let go of responsibilities which are not mine to shoulder. In fact I am still learning to do this. It is very much easier to do this because I am a believer of God and therefore it is easy to leave this to God. The word of God says to "cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you", and that is surely enough for me.

I am also learning that there are 2 other obstacles to being at peace with oneself:
  1. Comparing oneself with others from the angle of physique, material accoutrements, accomplishments
  2. Desiring for material accessories beyond one's means, eg., iPhone, iPad, bigger car, extensions for the house, better physique, more money to spend on family R&R

When I learn how to let these go, I find the peace slowly returning. I also find that spiritual exercises help. And for me, over these past days, and because of the school holidays, I have had more time to engage in spiritual exercises like  prayer and deep meditation upon God's word accompanied by active personalizing of God's word. These spiritual exercises are truly a means of grace. And grace to us is a manifestation of the Spirit's work in our souls, whereby we experience a degree of rest. This degree of rest is accompanied by a largesse of spirit. This largesse of spirit is seen in a forgiving and generous heart towards others. You find that you are able to be more patient with trying people.

So how does one practise "Slow Motion Therapy"?

Slow Motion Therapy's chief thesis is to help the client discover for themselves, the source of their difficulty, and attempt to find a solution by working through the issues very, very slowly. Slow Motion Therapy believes that the process itself is therapeutic, and helps give rise to insights. The practitioner merely facilitates the client's ability to very slowly, as they work through the issues, discover the problem areas, and see how the problems may contain, within themselves, possible germs of the solution. Slow Motion Therapy can be thought of as an application of Solution Focused Therapy, and it may not be brief!
