Dear friends,
I have had this experience, over life, where I discovered something which to me seemed really new and radical, but not to the people around me. It usually was a "revelation" - an idea which caused a definite change in the way I thought about existing reality. That idea was always accompanied by feelings of euphoria, well, actually excitement of a discovery.
Over the years, this phenomenon has occurred rather consistently. And it is amazing how there seems to be a consistent thread of an idea running through them. I thought that in today's post, I would elucidate on that idea.
I've been a believer of the Judeo-Christian philosophy, or believe system now for almost 31 years. For the sake of those who are not familiar with this belief system, it anchors on the reality that God is not the Jungian idea of a universal consciousness, or a spirit force, or atman. That God is actually a Person, and that Creation includes the fact that man ( and of course, woman ), was created in His image.
That idea alone can last some of us, a life-time of excited discovery. For me, the idea and thought that I am created in the image of God has it's ramifications stemming from WHO this God is. And as stated earlier, my ideas of this God is derived from the Judeo-Christian tradition. And the essence of this tradition is contained in two documents; the Old and New Testaments, contained in what is known popularly as 'The Bible". The Bible in itself, simply means, 'the book!'. And perhaps the definite article is added for it's uniqueness.
Anyway, having spend my 31 years studying 'the book', I've come across numerous discoveries which caused transformation of self. I am amazed by its consistency, coherence and utter logic. And it does not end there. What makes this book unique, and surely, what puts it into a class of itself, is that it goes beyond logic. I did not say 'against' logic, but beyond it.
Coming into my 31st year of living in the Judeo-Christian belief system, I continue to be amazed at the freshness of the content of the book.
It is so remarkably relevant. And in a milieu characterized by raging and relentless change, it's contents are wonderfully consistent.
And so, the discovery is that being created in the image of God means I need to know who this God is, and how He is like. I have discovered that discovering Him greatly helps in discovering oneself! And most wonderfully, discovering oneself created in His image is immensely satisfying and confidence building. And so my journey into this Awesome Divine Personality continues. He is transcendent, and yet, so immanent. He is predictable, and yet so mysterious. He is Loving, and yet so eternally removed from Hollywood's idea of love. Indeed a lifetime is insufficient in getting to know Him. And getting to know Him is so rewarding; rewarding to the soul, rewarding to relationships, rewarding in life.
Have a joyful Sunday!
Franklin
